Outing To Hans Burie's Chocolate Shop

September 2003

You can find the Hans Burie shop on the Korte Gasthuisstraat.

It was the current owner's father who first made the now famous Antwerp Diamond.

This is a picture of the Bourla in Antwerp made entirely of chocolate.

The chocolate car is the same size as an actual Opel. It is made with milk, dark, and white Belgium Callebaut chocolate.

Weight: 800 kilogram, 1800 pounds, or 28,800 ounces

5 Chocolatiers were working on this car for 4 weeks, from 7 am until 10 pm.

Chocolate Giraffes.

Models like these are moulded around wire. The chocolate is allowed to cool just enough to make it malleable.

Marzipan and chocolate models are then coloured and finally sprayed with cocoa butter which gives them a protective finish and prevents the marzipan from drying out.

These giraffes were sprayed with colour and then the paint scratched off to reveal the white chocolate underneath.

Apparently white chocolate has the shortest shelf life.

This is a model of a sheik's palace.

Let's hope he ate up the two, 2 meter square models up quickly!

The White House

All that chocolate made us thirsty. The ladies enjoying a cuppa!
