Cookery Club, 30th January

January's menu was a good old-fashioned South African meal. The menu was:

Roasted pumpkin soup with rooibos tea and spices.
Tomato bobotie with begrafnis rys, cucumber, tomato and salad.
Grandma’s apple pie.
South African red wine.

After having coffee with home-baked brac cake, we started cooking.

The ingredients were all kinds of mixtures of flavours, such as spicy ones like curry, ginger, turmeric and garlic, as well as sweet apricot jam, fresh apple and fresh lemon juice, with lots of meat.

The contrast of sweet and hot spicy tastes was excellent.

While the bobotie and apple pie were cooking in the oven, we had cava as an aperitif. The cava was superb, and the bubbles made it an extra cheerful day.

We had three lovely courses, with very rich South African wine.
